BROILED STEAK WITH MUSHROOM TOPPING

                                 1-inch thick beef steak (T-bone, porterhouse,
                                       tenderloin, club, strip, sirloin, rib)
                                 Salt
                                 Pepper

                                 Slash fat edge of steak to prevent curling during
               broiling.  Broil steak 5 to 7 minutes on each side for rare, 8 to 9
               minutes on each side for medium or 10 to 12 minutes on each side
               for well-done.  Season first side with salt and pepper just before
               turning.  Season second side when broiling is completed.  Remove
               to hot platter.  Serve with Mushroom Topping.

                                MUSHROOM TOPPING
                                 1/2 lb. mushrooms
                                 3 tablespoons butter

                                 Wash mushrooms; drain.  Cut lengthwise in thin slices.
               Melt butter; add mushrooms.  Cover; cook over low heat 3
               minutes or until some juice has formed in pan.  Uncover; continue
               cooking about 5 minutes.
